Covington church hosting Christmas meal for the less fortunate

COVINGTON, KY (FOX19) - The Madison Avenue Christian Church is hosting their annual?Santa's Workshop for children in need along with Christmas dinner in the Covington Community.

Following a Christmas community dinner, each child will have a chance to sit on Santa's lap and receive a gift and a backpack full of goodies. The church is collecting toys for all ages (infant-16) plus, wash cloths, candy, healthy snacks, tooth brushes, tooth paste, tissue packs, soap, shampoo/conditioner, combs/brushes, Chapstick, hats, gloves, pencils, crayons, notebooks, etc. Volunteers are also needed on the 19th to help serve dinner or to hand out gifts at Santa's workshop.

In addition to Santa?s Workshop and Christmas Dinner, The Angel Tree Program will help children in need at James E. Biggs Early Elementary Education Center.? Church members support individual students in need by adopting Angels and providing Christmas gifts for them.? Angel gifts are due at the church by December 9. MACC Youth Minister Kyle McDougall coordinates the Angel Program.

??This year as we gather around the Christmas tree as families, some of us may think about the poor and at MACC, there is an opportunity for people to pitch in and help through the programs at our church,? said Pastor Chinna Simon.?? ?Together, we are giving every family the opportunity to celebrate Christmas this year.?

Now in its seventh year, the homeless meal program at Madison Avenue Christian Church has served over 60,000 hot meals with the help of church members and community volunteers.? Several local neighborhood groups and churches have pitched in to help feed the poor and provide a nourishing hot meal twice a week, year round.?

The church also provides Samaritan car care services, nursing care, flu shots, and personal care items.? Church members are responsible for stocking the supplies.

The church is open to receive items for Santa?s workshop Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:30-5 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10-3 p.m. and Sundays from 9-1 or 5-7 p.m.
