There is no better place than home. One does not feel the comfort of the home anywhere else in the world. However, taking care of your home is also important.

There is no better place than home. One does not feel the comfort of the home anywhere else in the world. However, taking care of your home is also important. There are a large number of home improvement companies available for this task. These companies do all the work required for home improvement, such as basement finishing, kitchen designing, residential repairs, roofing, bathroom renovation, deck remodeling, side remodeling, cleaning things up etc. But one has to find the right home improvement company which has the correct contractors, great credentials, good ratings and is reputable. Then, whether you plan to remodel your kitchen or you plan to remodel your bathroom, the company will do the needful for you. Even if you plan to redecorate your entire house, you can simply leave it to the professionals. But make sure you choose licensed, experienced and qualified personnel to do your work. Figuring out at what point of time your home needs to be refurnished is also important. There are various methods and techniques to figure the same. Check for gaps in the siding, broken windows and doors, broken latches etc. If you have a wooden flooring, make sure it is far away from coming in contact with soil. Also check for cracked fascia boards and hose bibs. A home improvement company should be able to handle all kinds of work be it granite countertops, cabinetry, custom lighting, tile, plumbing, electric work, flooring paint or anything else. That?s the hallmark of a good home improvement company: that it can undertake and successfully execute any kind of work at your home and meet your expectations.

Richard Ford finds his place in 'Canada'

It's tempting to call Richard Ford a writer of place. Beginning with his first novel, 1976's "A Piece of My Heart," the 68-year-old author has tended toward the border among landscape, language and character, using setting to help drive his narratives. Think of Frank Bascombe, who in "The Sportswriter," "Independence Day" and "The Lay of the Land" drifts across the bland surfaces of New Jersey, seeking not stimulation but a stasis similar to that of the suburbs where he resides. Or the people of Ford's Montana books, "Rock Springs" and "Wildlife": etched by the stark environment in which they find themselves, staring down the elements of their lives.

It's as if, Ford wants us to imagine, we live at the mercy of larger forces, forces outside ourselves, forces that determine who we are. And yet, he insists by phone from his home in East Boothbay, Maine, that's not the case ? or not exactly, anyway. "Growing up in Mississippi," he recalls, "and being told that this defined me, set me on a path away from place as generative. When I started writing, I took the Toulouse-Lautrec attitude that place is background scenery. I didn't want the place I came from to be responsible for me."

What Ford is getting at is a dual set of burdens: that of Southern history ? "[W]e lived in an absurd racist society," he told the Paris Review in 1996 ? and of the Southern literary tradition, which, encompassing William Faulkner, Flannery O'Connor, Eudora Welty, Tennessee Williams and Carson McCullers, left him feeling "there was no place here for me." With his new novel, "Canada" (Ecco: 420 pp., $27.99), however, he has come to acknowledge that the issue of place is perhaps less clear-cut, more deterministic, than he may have thought.

The book, which takes place primarily in Montana and the Canadian province of Saskatchewan, is a return, of sorts; set in summer and fall 1960, it is narrated by 15-year-old Dale Parsons, who must learn to fend for himself after his parents are arrested for robbing a bank. Dale is of a piece with Joe Brinson, the teenage protagonist of "Wildlife," whose life too comes unraveled in 1960. (Several of the stories in "Rock Springs" are also set in 1959 or 1960 and involve the travails of adolescent boys.) In that sense, place may be not only geographic but also experiential, a matter of both exterior and interior territory ? although either way, it echoes through.

"'Place means nothing,' I wrote in 'Independence Day,'" Ford says with a rueful laugh. "I was throwing down a gauntlet. But if I tried to make that true, I will concede now that I may not have been fully successful. Because when I write sentences set in Montana, I write different kinds of sentences. So there must be some generative relationship."

"Canada" is very much about the interplay of character and landscape, although in this case the primary landscape has to do with family. That's because Dale, his parents and his twin sister, Berner, are in many ways isolated, a result of the peripatetic nature of his father's work with the Air Force as well as the family's status as outsiders, who naturally hold themselves apart. Ford introduces this via Dale's mother, a woman who prides herself on a skeptical intelligence.

"These were the values that caused her never to want Berner and me to assimilate in the places my father's Air Force job took us," he observes early in the novel. "Those places, she felt, would 'dilute and corrupt' what was good and important about us and render us stale and ordinary in terms specific to Mississippi, Texas, Michigan, Ohio, places she had low regard for and considered unenlightened."

Right there, in two straightforward sentences, Ford establishes the central conflict of the novel: between family on the one hand and community on the other ? or, more directly, between personality and place. Plot, in such a context, is secondary; what's important is how the characters react. "More than events," he explains, "I'm interested in consequence. What happens after the big event? That's when life gets lived." To make this explicit, he tips off the main dramatic action from the opening lines. "First," he begins the novel, "I'll tell about the robbery our parents committed. Then about the murders, which happened later."

For Ford, the diffusion of narrative tension opens up another, more essential tension ? that of a character coming to resolution with himself. This is the arc Dale traverses throughout "Canada," and it echoes not just the author's earlier Montana books but also his Bascombe trilogy, which is all about the process of coming to terms.

"With Dale," Ford says, "I tried to combine his adult and his childhood voice, to use two vocalizations: a 15-year-old boy and a 65-year-old man." The point is to show how he's reckoned with his past, even the parts for which he cannot make amends. "There's a debt to pay," Ford goes on, "but there's also a sense of accepting who you are. That's happiness, when you're 65 years old, to make do with what you're given, to come to a position of assent."

That's what Ford has been writing toward for much of his career, going back to "A Piece of My Heart," which moves between two characters who, he suggests, represent "the two sides of my brain, one sensation and the other intellect." In "Canada," though, he's integrated the impulse in a broader way. As much as Dale recalls Ford's other Montana adolescents, he's equally reminiscent of Bascombe, looking back from the second half of his life in a voice equally piercing and reflective. "What I want to do," Ford says, "is to get at something like Walter Benjamin's idea of instruction, to illuminate the struggle of existence. What's important to Dale is not what he's been through, so much as his desire to find some purpose. He ends up happy because he has made himself useful."

This is a traditional definition of art, of fiction: that it should instruct or enlighten us, that it should illuminate something about how we live. Yet at its center is a related notion: that the line between the ordinary and the extraordinary is often a tenuous one.

"To me," Ford writes, tracing Dale's parents' slow drift from one side of the law to the other, "it's the edging closer to the point of no return that's fascinating: all along the trip, chatting, sharing confidences, exchanging endearments ? since their life was officially still intact. ? How amazingly far normalcy extends; how you can keep it in sight as if you were on a raft sliding out to sea, the stick of land growing smaller and smaller. ? You notice it, or you don't notice it. But you're already too far away, and all is lost." That, he claims, is "the heart of the book, that these two experiences exist side by side, that we can always pull back from the line until we cross it." In a way, it's a bit of a commonplace, but then, this is part of the novelistic enterprise, as well.

"There's no such thing as commonplace," Ford argues, "there's no such thing as ordinary. What I've found is that each thing becomes prologue to something we didn't expect. I didn't expect to write again about Montana, but it turned out there was more to say. What I've discovered about myself is that I'm a goer-backer" ? and here, he could be talking about Dale, or Bascombe, or any of his characters ? "I'm just a guy who goes back and gets more."

Iraq Christian heritage sites lie neglected

A stone's throw from Iraq's Shiite holy city of Najaf's airport, the remains of the celebrated ancient Christian city of Hira lie neglected and mouldering, because funds for excavation have dried up.

Three sites, discovered five years ago, are unexplored and unkempt, and officials fear the uncompleted excavation could lead to their eventual demise.

The sites, which contain mud walls and jars that are exposed to the elements, lie fewer than 100 metres (yards) from an active runway, are not fenced off and have no security except their proximity to the restricted airport area.

They form part of the ancient Lakhmid capital of Hira, on the outskirts of Najaf, 150 kilometres (95 miles) south of Baghdad.

The Lakhmids were a pre-Islamic Arab tribe that is believed to have emigrated to what is now Iraq from Yemen in the second or third century. The founder of the dynasty was Amr, whose son, Imru al-Qais, converted to Christianity.

In 266, the Lakhmids turned the former military encampment of Hira into their capital.

Establishing their empire across what is now Iraq and northeastern Arabia, they held sway across the lands that lay between the Persians -- to whom they were vassals for several centuries -- and the Romans.

They were a major force among the pre-Islamic Arab peoples, with their culture and learning spread widely and where the early Arabic alphabet was standardised.

Arab poets described Hira as a paradise on earth, with one saying that, because of the city's pleasant climate and beauty, a day in Hira was "better than a year of treatment".

Hira, which extends around 17 kilometres (10 miles) south from Najaf, remained the Lakhmid capital until 663, when Muslim general Khalid bin al-Walid conquered it on the orders of Abu Baqr, the immediate successor of the Prophet Mohammed.

"The area has historical importance, because it is rich in antiquities, including especially the remains of churches, abbeys and palaces," said Shakir Abdulzahra Jabari, who led excavations there in 2007, 2009 and 2010.

"But now, the antiquities have been neglected for a year, and they do not receive any attention, despite the fact that many Western countries are interested in Hira's history as the main gateway of Christianity into Iraq."

Hira was famous for its arable land, and for its palaces and monasteries, notably the Aoun al-Abadi Palace, which hosted visiting dignitaries, and the Al-Lij monastery.

The sites feature the historic treasures of the Lakhmid era, such as the bases of massive abbeys that include dozens of rooms, from studying halls to monastic cells and storage areas.

"Christians have lived for a long period of time in the Hira region, where they formed around one-third of the city's population, with the Al-Abad tribe the most well-known of their community," said Yahya Kadhim al-Sultani, a professor at Kufa University in Najaf's twin city.

"Hira was characterised by a not insignificant number of churches built for living in, and the practise of various scientific and cultural activities," Sultani added.

The ancient city has seen several excavations in decades past, Jabari said.

Oxford University researchers explored the site in the 1930s, and Iraqi antiquities experts carried out their own excavations in 1938, 1956 and 1957.

It was during the latter set of explorations that the Palace of Al-Khawarnaq, built during the reign of fourth and fifth century King Numan I was discovered.

But since the 2003 US-led invasion that toppled Saddam Hussein, Baghdad's government has had bigger priorities than funding large-scale digs in a country with more than 12,000 documented archaeological sites.

Foreign exploration teams have largely avoided Iraq entirely over security fears, even though levels of violence in the country are significantly lower than their peak in 2006 and 2007.

And those who have come have largely chosen to focus on the autonomous and relatively safe Kurdistan region in the north for excavations.

"The excavation works resumed in the area in 2007. When expansion work was being done to Najaf airport, the first three sites were discovered," said Jabari.

"We have worked to save it from the (airport) expansion process."

Since then, several digs in an area of 3,000 square metres (32,300 square feet) have uncovered the bases of mud-built structures, as well as crosses etched into walls, and a piece of wax marble with the inscription, "Blessings from God, and God forgave the followers of Christ."

In 2009, the Najaf provincial department of antiquities said researchers had unearthed around 2,100 artifacts in different parts of the province, including coins, pieces of pottery and a number of buildings dating back to the Lakhmid dynasty.

"But exploration work stopped a year ago because of time limits on the project, which ran out of money, and no maintenance work has been done on the sites since," Jabari said.

He now fears that further neglect will lead to the antiquities' destruction.

New study finds earliest evidence yet of differential access to land

Hereditary inequality began over 7,000 years ago in the early Neolithic era, with new evidence showing that farmers buried with tools had access to better land than those buried without.

The research, carried out by archaeologists from the Universities of Bristol, Cardiff and Oxford, is published in PNAS today [28 May].

By studying more than 300 human skeletons from sites across central Europe, Professor Alex Bentley and an international team of colleagues funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council uncovered evidence of differential land access among the first Neolithic farmers the earliest such evidence yet found.

Strontium isotope analysis of the skeletons, which provides indications of place of origin, indicated that men buried with distinctive Neolithic stone adzes (tools used for smoothing or carving wood) had less variable isotope signatures than men buried without adzes. This suggests those buried with adzes had access to closer and probably better land than those buried without.

Professor Bentley, Professor of Archaeology and Anthropology at the University of Bristol, said: "The men buried with adzes appear to have lived on food grown in areas of loess, the fertile and productive soil favoured by early farmers. This indicates they had consistent access to preferred farming areas."

The strontium isotope analysis also revealed that early Neolithic women were more likely than men to have originated from areas outside those where their bodies were found. This is a strong indication of patrilocality, a male-centred kinship system where females move to reside in the location of the males when they marry.

This new evidence from the skeletons is consistent with other archaeological, genetic, anthropological and even linguistic evidence for patrilocality in Neolithic Europe. The results have implications for genetic modelling of how human populations expanded in the Neolithic, for which sex-biased mobility patterns and status differences are increasing seen as crucial.

Professor Bentley said: "Our results, along with archaeobotanical studies that indicate the earliest farmers of Neolithic Germany had a system of land tenure, suggest that the origins of differential access to land can be traced back to an early part of the Neolithic era, rather than only to later prehistory when inequality and intergenerational wealth transfers are more clearly evidenced in burials and material culture.

"It seems the Neolithic era introduced heritable property (land and livestock) into Europe and that wealth inequality got underway when this happened. After that, of course, there was no looking back: through the Bronze Age, Iron Age and Industrial era wealth inequality increased but the 'seeds' of inequality were sown way back in the Neolithic."

You fight Corn Griffin, Jimmy. Number two heavyweight contender in the world. Prelim before the championship bout. Joe, this ain?t funny. No, it?s not. And it ain?t no favor either. Griffin?s opponent got cut and can?t fight. We had to find somebody they could throw in at a day?s notice. Nobody legit would... Nobody would take a fight with Griffin without training.

Continuity Disaster Recovery - Excellence In Business

You might have your own The idea methods prepared along with your Disaster Recovery Prepare. Check out. You might have communications strategies along with the help at the rear of it available. Examine. You have your labor force trained plus they know what to do and ways to answer. Check. You have an alternative location to continue work. Check. You?ve got workarounds in position for additional failures. Check out. You?ve also designed for a way to get employees both to and from the particular alternative internet site. Check.
Almost nothing holders inside your way, you might be plainly certain that your business continuity planning allows you to recuperate perhaps from the most unfortunate devastation impacting your business. But tend to an individual?
Firms could spend immeasureable some time and assets committed to ensuring they could restore processes, national infrastructure, establishments, information, as well as other aspects of the business enterprise, these strategies often fall short inside a key region.
What is in which key region? It is ensuring that your workers are ready in your house. This is especially true when it is a vital staff that?s tasked with a few the main recuperation functions or team within your business. Contemplate it. A serious celebration merely occurred. Whether it is the earth quake, storm, wild fire, as well as other unpredicted function which has a main impact not just on your own company, but the region who are around you.
What are the employee?s first concerns? Getting some misconception as well as working as soon as the smoke cigarettes has cleared. Or even, is it focused on proceeding residence should they cannot call their loved ones?
Should they usually are not on the job along with their property is affected and they have little disaster products are usually their own initial concerns gonna be heading to a cubicle? Or perhaps do they really become getting a way of caring for or their loved ones members very first?
Right now, think about what you will be doing regular if it is your circumstances. Precisely what are YOU going to perform, if this occurred today, nowadays? Perform would definitely stop the first issue in many instances, will it?
Thus, now that you recognize this, how would you go about leading to a big change so that you can gain the actual determination of one?s workers to help in your current recuperation? It is actually any three-step method the other of the measures must be completed by now in case you have your company continuity programs in position. That will initial step is to determine employees along with sources you?ll want to start the particular process of healing.
The subsequent a pair of actions are certainly not in which challenging, nevertheless it will need a few motivation through the enterprise. The initial of these two measures is to assist or aid these kinds of personnel acquire geared up in your own home. This could be supplying the workers using the understanding they must make correct methods to organize in your own home. Or company may go further by giving financial help and even getting products pertaining to select personnel along with their family members to be prepared. Occasionally organizations even contract out for repairs in advance and make constructors on retainer to venture to the houses associated with workers to do repairs. You?ll be able to consider this as far as you prefer on the other hand recommend anyone give them at the very least a summary of supplies they should don hand.
The next phase is always to present extra hands-on education via a workshop, or perhaps lunchtime and discover in order that the workers can discover ways to store, employ, and also maintain their own items. You can actually proceed as much as to presenting a professional teach them more hands-on skills. Several of my personal past businesses clients need added practicing for crucial workers in their own personal houses exactly where they figure out how to properly risk-free products, shelter set up, as well as other abilities.
For a few companies not every these kinds of tasks are attainable. Anyway you should ensure that your crucial personnel possess some property preparedness planning. Should you choose, your current recovery may encounter significantly less ?unexpected? problems and also get much more easily.

38 Studios employees unpaid since May 1, health insurance ends on

38 Studios employees have not been paid since May 1 and their health care will end Thursday at midnight, a source with knowledge of the situation tells Joystiq. Employees are normally paid on the first and 15th of each month.

When asked if the studio would be shutting down this week, the source could only say, "Unknown at this time. Outlook is not good."

We're informed that 38 Studios' MMO, "Project Copernicus," announced by Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee as launching in June 2013, did have that date as its internal target. However, "Whether this is realistic or not is up for debate."

Gov. Chafee said in a press conference today that he would do what he could to prevent the studio from shutting down. Will the studio still exist within a month? "I have no idea," our source replied.

The Difference Between An Email Copywriter and an SEO Copywriter

Copywriting was once a very coveted skill. Writers would hone their skills for years to develop the right mix of storytelling and emotion grabbing writing that sells a product.

However, after the Internet grew, developed, and became a medium for commerce, the need for copywriters grew. This brought a variety of other professionals to the craft ? including online editors, content marketers, and audience development professionals.

For the online business professionals who have been given the copywriting hat to wear, here are a few things to understand about copywriting.

Discover how to write for successful email marketing campaigns when you download our FREE Email Copywriting Basics white paper.

First, email copywriting and SEO copywriting are equally important online, yet they are slightly different than one another. Both begin with creating persuasive content that calls readers to action, yet has a flow that provides a good read.

One main difference between SEO copywriters and email copywriters is that SEO copywriters need to optimize their website copy for targeted keyword phrases. Email copywriters need to develop content that meets the requirements of email service providers and spam filters. This includes creating email subject lines that are interesting and engaging enough to persuade the recipient to open it. They also need to avoid using specific words that will cause the email to trigger a spam filter and not make it to the inbox. Email copywriters laying out snippet-based email newsletters also need to pick body copy that gets people to click links and visit the website.

Are you new to email copywriting or SEO copywriting? Please share your experience on developing your skills.

Contactless Mobile Services: Worldwide First In Toulouse-Blagnac ...

Contactless Mobile Services Worldwide First In Toulouse Blagnac Airport Contactless Mobile Services: Worldwide First In Toulouse Blagnac Airport

Contactless Mobile Services

Toulouse-Blagnac airport,Francehas worked in collaboration with Research In Motion,Orangeand SITA to reach new heights in innovative customer service. The airport is launching a Near Field Communication (NFC) trial that enables passengers to pass seamlessly through the airport using just their mobile phones. In a worldwide first for an airport, using a SIM card-based safety protocol, 50 frequent flyers will take part in a trial atToulouseairport this summer, to test the new service on their BlackBerry smartphones.

?

NFC technology allows easy access to a wide range of useful services. Using a wireless short-range connection a simple tap of the mobile device can validate a flight ticket, pay for goods or receive information about, for example, departure gates, flight changes and other relevant information.

Arriving at T-B airport, the passenger?s mobile phone will now act as their security pass for a dedicated, priority path through the airport. Passengers on the trial will be able to access the P1 car park using their smartphone, which will hold details on the parking lot in the memory. Then, without delay, they will be granted access to Departures via the Premium Access Zone. Thereafter, they?ll be able to enjoy the comforts of the ?La Croix du Sud? private lounge? without needing to

?Present additional credentials. En route through the airport, passengers on the trial will receive real-time information related to their flight (schedule, departure hall, boarding gate, etc.).

Using NFC technology offers many advantages: it is extremely secure; it works even when the mobile is powered off; it does not require any specific application to be loaded on to it; it is not affected by reading problems due to a scratched or dirty screen surface. Passengers using NFC can now be handled more promptly and efficiently than with any of the current boarding processes available.

Through this partnership with Research In Motion,Orangeand SITA, Toulouse-Blagnac airport looks towards the future, implementing functionalities that will be displayed in the new smartphone application planned for 2013-2014.

David Derrida, Director of Carrier Product Management Research In Motion:

NFC technology opens up numerous exciting possibilities for BlackBerry smartphone users. We are actively working with partners around the world to advance the development of value-added, NFC-based services and we are very excited to be involved in this trial. This new technology is already available on several BlackBerry smartphones and we expect it to revolutionize the experience of passengers at the Toulouse-Blagnac airport.

Didier Durand, Director of ContactlessMobileServices:

?We are happy that our collaboration with Toulouse-Blagnac airport enables us to deploy a pragmatic and secure offer, which will soon be available forOrangecustomers travelling through the airport.

?In collaboration withToulouseairport and an airline, our aim is to offer a complete service that includes the ticket. These contactless mobile services, which are based on the AFSCM and GSMA standards, will simplify peoples? lives in a number of ways.Orangeis working with partners in sectors such as transport, entertainment, banks, shopkeepers and service operators to create an ecosystem that will allow these services to take-off on a large scale.?

Renaud Irminger, Director of SITA Lab, SITA:

?SITA, the world?s leading specialist in air transport communications and IT solutions, is actively working on the development of new technologies that have the potential to improve the passenger experience, like NFC. In 2011, SITA Lab demonstrated through a demonstration room, that NFC could dramatically improve the passenger experience by, for example, using NFC-enabled phones as a boarding pass to open security, airline lounge and boarding gates automatically, and could also increase the penetration of mobile phone usage for air travel. We are delighted that this technology is now becoming a reality with the world?s first trial at Toulouse-Blagnac?.

Toulouse-Blagnac airport is the fourth French regional platform, with 7 million passengers in 2011. The airport consists of four halls, with a total area of 100,000 m? on two floors. In 2012, the airport hosted the regional bases of Air France and easyJet. Program for Summer 2012, the Toulouse-Blagnac airport offers 42 international destinations and 17 domestic destinations regularly. 46 charter destinations are in the catalog. For summer 2012, 35 new routes were opened from Toulouse. Toulouse-Blagnac airport is a qualified Qualicert services for its four halls. The certification by the agency SGS, the world leader in this field, is evidence of a consistent quality of service for passengers, and people looking for a traveler.

What Role Does Ambition Play In a Relationship? | Cupid's Pulse ...

Cupid's Pulse, celebrity couples, ambition, dating advice

By Steven Zangrillo

Women and men have ways of motivating each other for the greater mutual success. The need for a partner with drive and ambition is an overarching common criterion among people looking for healthy relationships. Ambition affects how we choose our partners and is an attractive quality when a person gives you the confidence that they will always be looking to improve on their successes. It begs the question of what role ambition plays in the dynamic of our relationships; how do we reconcile our need for better things? It is important to know that when ambition, positively or negatively motivated, is driving or dragging on your partnership. Here are just a few ways ambition plays a significant role in a relationship:

1. Career:

This is where the prospect of ambition becomes a two-pronged situation. Ambition is a dangerous factor in the scope of a relationship ? it can bring goal-oriented love birds together or it can split you in two different directions. Someone ambitious for a life as a successful writer who is dating someone ambitious for immediate success in a finance career might have a hard time making that work. Our level of ambition affects the way we make career and social choices.

2. Finances:

The whimsical notion that ?love conquers all? is difficult to uphold when you have a mortgage to pay. This, of course, is different than gold digging. However, when people are looking for their potential life-long mate, they are essentially searching for someone who is, or plans to be, financially stable.?In that reality, ambition walks hand in hand with how far you?re willing to take your relationship.

Related: Celebrities ? Love, Marriage and the Money in Between

3. Love:

Ambition should, at the very least, determine what kind of partner you pursue. It?s unfair to pursue someone who won?t help you achieve the things for which you?re ambitious. While it isn?t someone else?s job to adjust their entire life strategy in the interest of solely supporting the life you want, you should find someone who is willing to compromise in the means of supporting both you and their endeavors. In this sense, you should also make sure that you are both following paths that are more or less on the same track. The search of lasting love, being taken care of emotionally and being loved for who you are all timeless notions. People want that, and will go to great lengths to ensure they are in an emotionally stable and healthy relationship.

There is no universal advice to be given on how ambition should define the scope of your relationship. Everyone is ambitious for different reasons ? success, money, healthy love, being taken care of financially or being able to provide. How that ambition affects the steps you take together is up to you. Don?t put yourself in a position to be disappointed. Above all, the things that we are ambitious for determine the arc of our life paths; so, if you?re ambitious for happiness you?ll never fall short.
